Although, my family and I are grateful to be in Canada and the chance for a new life, there are some things that are – quite frankly – strange.
One such thing, that I simply just cannot support, is the recent spate of Spotify adverts by the Canadian Energy Centre that I believe is trying to change the perceptions of people in a positive direction on the oil and gas industry.
Let me state upfront that I would be a supporter of a clean, green economy. Although necessary, and although a contributor to the “BC economy” as the advert states, I believe that it would be far better to find an implement energy technology that moves away from destroying the planet.
In my mind, these platitudes are quite shameful:
- Made the Canada
- Contributing X million dollars to the economy
- Providing X million jobs
- Find more reasons why you can feel good about Canada’s oil and gas
Although oil and gas powers so much of our energy needs, and that many millions (both revenue and jobs) are generated by the industry, the message and it’s intent is morally wrong to me.
Our teen reminded me of utilitarianism two days ago. Call me an emerging one. I’ll proudly take it.
Let’s do better. Also looking at you, Spotify.
